38th Annual Syttende Mai 20 Mile Run 1st Annual Syttende Mai 10 Mile Run 24th Annual Syttende Mai Walk
The Syttende Mai 20 mile run is a race from Madison to Stoughton, and the walk is a non-competitive 17 mile walk. NEW for 2010, is a 10 mile run which starts at the 10 mile point of the same route. The same route is used by both runners and walkers, and is on rolling blacktopped roads. The walk follows in the tradition of Europe's popular "Volks Marches:. (See map on previous page)
Entry Fees: For the 20 mile run and 17 mile walk, the cost is $30 for entries received by May 1st, 2010; from May 2 – 13, the fee is $40. Registrations must be received by 5 p.m. on May 13th; otherwise, at the start line. For the 10 mile run, the cost is $20 for entries received by May 1st, 2010; from May 2 – 13, the fee is $30. Registrations must be received by 5 p.m. on May 13th; otherwise, at the start line.
Entry Confirmation: We like to email participants their confirmation instead of sending postcards, so please complete the email portion of the application. If we do not have an email address for you, you will receive a postcard. Your notification will be mailed after May 6, 2010. Receiving the email or postcard indicates that you are registered. If you believe you are registered for the wrong event, please email us at syttendemai@gmail.com or call us at 608-438-7912.
Facilities: Showers and dressing rooms are located at the finish line in the Mandt Community Center. Bring your own towel. Duffle bags, sweats, jackets, etc. will be transported from the starting areas to the finish area.
Transportation: Buses will be available for runners and walkers from Mandt Park in Stoughton to Madison starting at 5:30 a.m. The last bus will leave Stoughton at 7:00 to accommodate the 8:00 start for the 10 mile run. 20 mile runners will want to make sure to take an earlier shuttle to ensure that you arrive in plenty of time for the 7:30 start. Return buses from Mandt Park in Stoughton to Madison – Capitol Square and Badger Bowl only – will depart beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the last bus at 1:00 p.m. cost is $2.00 per person per trip – please pay when boarding the bus. NOTE : There is no available parking at the 10 mile run start. You will need to be dropped off or take the bus from Stoughton to the starting area.
Restrictions: Absolutely no support vehicles, animals, bicycles, baby joggers, skateboards, roller skates, in-line skates, roller skis or other wheeled vehicles will be permitted on the race course (Except course marshals) Runners receiving aid from any of the aforementioned will be subject to disqualification. You must run 2 abreast and stay on the left side of the road. Syttende Mai officials reserve the right to disqualify any participant for inappropriate action or behavior – including littering.
Finish: The finish is at Mandt Park on St. Fourth St., Stoughton. Be sure to enter the proper gate. T-shirts will be awarded only to those to finish by 1:00 pm. Wearing your 2010 t-shirt will gain you admission to most Syttende Mai events on Saturday and Sunday.
Day of Registration: 20 Mile Run – 6:00 to 7:00 a.m.; corner of Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Madison. 10 Mile Run – 6:30 to 7:30 – 10 mile mark of the race course – Sand Hill Rd. – in the town of Dunn (near the cemetery)
Packet Pick-up: For both the 20 and 10 mile runs, you must pick up your race number and chip the morning of the race. They will be available early at the registration area. Allow sufficient time to pick up your number and chip.
Start: 20 mile run – Madison's Capitol Square at 7:30 a.m. – corner of Main St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. – 10 mile run – 10 mile mark of the race course – Sand Hill Rd. – town of Dunn (near the cemetery)
Aid Stations & Toilets: Water provided at miles 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17 & 18 and finish. Gatorade provided at alternate stations. Fruit and refreshments will be available at the finish line until 1:00 p.m. (Paid participants only please!) Portable toilets will be available along the course. In addition, we also provide a baby/family station for parents and children at the Mandt Park finish area.
Race Timing: Sports Management Associates, Inc. using the ChampionChip timing will time the 20 and 10 mile runs. You must wear the chip in order to be timed – no exceptions. You must also wear the provided race number on the front of your body to identify you as an official participant. Your chip will be given to you with your face number and must be returned after the race. Failure to return the chip will result in a fine. Splits read at miles, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, & finish. No times after 12 noon.
Awards: Awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Mandt Park in Stoughton. For the 20 mile run, hand painted rosemaled plated are given to the top 3 in each age division. Race medals will be given to age group winners for the 10 mile run.
Please Note: We will strictly be enforcing the 2 abreast rule and staying on the left side of the road. Please help us be good neighbors and be courteous. We want to continue using this route.
