SUMMARY:"Hardanger Holiday" featuring work by Donna M. Olson
DESCRIPTION:New Exhibit for the Holidays at Livsreise. In addition to the beautiful holiday decorations throughout Livsreise\, there is a special exhibit called "Hardanger Holidays" opening on November 29. This exhibit features Hardanger embroidery made exclusively by Donna M. Olson. Donna will be giving at Gallery Talk at 1:00 PM that day about her work. She received an education teaching degree from Hamline University in St. Paul\, Minnesota and taught at Iowa State University for five years before moving to Stoughton. Donna soon became aware that Stoughton was settled mainly by Norwegians and that many women of the community we interested in learning how to do Hardangersom embroidery. Donna subsequently learned this skill from the ladies who had been stitching for many years. Starting in 1972 she has taught ongoing classes in Hardangersom in Stoughton. In addition\, with the encouragement of her students\, in 1991 she started her business called Satin Stitches. The offerings include selling charted traditional and contemporary Hardangersom designs at selected stitchery/embroidery stores in the Midwest and online. She continues to teach a Hardangersom class weekly on Wednesday mornings at the Stoughton Senior. The exhibit will be in place throughout the holiday time. This is a Live Event. .
