SUMMARY:The Foundation Sci Fi & Fantasy Book Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Stoughton Public Library's science fiction & fantasy book group. We've named this group "The Foundation" in honor of science fiction grand master Isaac Asimov and his famous Foundation Trilogy. Copies of the selected books are available on the second floor of the library. We meet at the library on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. \n\nJanuary 3: Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke\n\nCompleted and published in 1953\,  this became Clarke's first successful novel.  Additional reading will be Clarke's short story "The Sentinel."\n\nFebruary 7: Mars is Ours (stories of the "Red Planet"): meeting at Paco's Tacos this month (135 W. Main Street)\n\nRed Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson\n\nThe Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury\n\nThe Sands of Mars by Arthur C. Clarke\n\nThe Martian Way by Isaac Asimov\n\nRed Star by Alexander Bogdanov\n\nEdgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars series\n\nMarch 7: Cosmic Perspectives\n\nJoin us for a trip to the MMSD Planetarium near West Towne Mall. Details TBD. We'll meet in the library parking lot at 5:45 pm\, and leave at 6:00 pm. The program will begin at 7:00 pm.\n\nApril 4: The Fantasy of Robin Hobb\n\nRobin Hobb is the pen name of Margaret Astrid Lindholm Ogden.\n\nTake your pick from the following:\n\nDragon Keeper (first of a series)\n\nShip of Magic (first of a series)\n\nThe Inheritance & Other Stories (stand-alone collection)\n\nMay 2: The Science Fiction of Robert Charles Wilson\n\nWilson is a popular contemporary American-Canadian science fiction writer. He has won the Hugo Award\, the John W. Campbell Memorial Award\, the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award\, three Prix Aurora Awards\, and the Philip K. Dick Award.\n\nJune 6: From Sci-Fi to Cli-Fi: Climate Change Fiction\n\nClimate Fiction is literature that deals with climate change and global warming. Stories may take place in the world as we know it or in the near future. The term "cli-fi" came into use in the late 2000s to describe tales that deal with man-made climate change. There are also many works that deal with climate change as a natural disaster. Titles TBD.
