A quirky Texas contest inspired the documentary Hands on a Hardbody—and later, a Broadway musical now coming to Stoughton Village Players.
On Friday, Feb. 13 at 7:00 pm, SVP Theater will host a free screening of the documentary, followed by the live musical performances March 12–15 and 19–21. It’s a rare chance to see how a real-life story evolved from film to stage.
The contest was simple but brutal: contestants kept one hand on a 1995 Nissan Hardbody pickup, and the last person standing won the truck. The documentary—and the musical—focus on the people behind the challenge, their dreams, and what the prize meant to them. The stage production even uses some of their real words.
Audiences can expect a never-before-seen set piece, dynamic choreography, and powerful songs performed by a local cast. Directors and cast members will attend the Feb. 13 screening to share insight into bringing these real stories to life. The screening is free, no tickets required (donations accepted).
