Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day is March 21
To help bring awareness we are having a:
Unique or Mismatched Socks Day
We will be celebrating it during service on March 26th.
On that day, you are invited to wear any wild socks you might own.
If you don’t have silly socks, you can wear mismatched socks.
Why unique or mismatched socks? For a couple of reasons. First, because chromosomes are shaped like socks and people with Down’s have an extra chromosome. Also because others tend to comment on socks. This gives you an opportunity to say you are wearing them to promote Down’s Awareness.
This year’s theme for the day is “with us not for us.”
Down’s Syndrome International says this means,
“[p]eople with disabilities have the right to be treated fairly and have the same opportunities as everyone else, working with others to improve their lives.”
