Did you know that the Wisconsin regiments of the Iron Brigade were among the first to arrive at the Battle of Gettysburg? Civil War scholars consider them a crucial factor in the Union success during this pivotal battle, July 1-3, 1863. Local amateur historian Jerry Hunter was inspired to research this topic when reading the names of the Civil War soldiers listed on the library’s plaque on Main Street. He’ll share recollections and tactical explanations of the Iron Brigade’s involvement through the lens of official reports as well as personal accounts regarding local soldiers.
