"The Lur and the Legend of Prillar Guri" with Eric Stavney April 6, 2024 11:00 AM CDT A virtual presentation via Zoom.
Prillar-Guri or Prillarguri is a legendary figure who according to oral tradition was a woman from Sel, Norway who played a key role in the Battle of Kringen. Sweden and Denmark-Norway were actively engaged in the Kalmar War in August of 1612. The Scottish were planning an invasion, and as the story goes, Prillar was instrumental in warning the militia of 500 when the Scots were about to cross the river by blowing on her lur from atop a high point over the valley.
Our presenter, Eric Stavney is a journalist, teacher, and promoter of Nordic culture. He currently writes for the Norwegian American News and writes a blog called "Nordic on Tap."
